Fort McDowell Adventures If you have never beento Fort McDowell Adventures take an afternoon and spend it here. It is the perfect place to get a sense of the Wild West. The facility sits on a ridge on the eastern slope of the Verde River Valley overlooking the McDowell Mountains and Four Peaks. Surrounded by open desert in the middle of the Fort McDowell Indian Community, beauty abounds. In fact, the graded gravel road leading to the facility off of state route 87 is a beautiful drive in itself and in a sense takes you back in time. Upon arrival at Fort McDowell Adventures, you will be greeted by staff dressed in appropriately western attire. The facilities resemble an old western ranch and town. Often, live western bands lead spectators in the two-step while the aroma of good food cooking on the grill beckons hearty appetites. Fort McDowell Adventures features three main areas; La Puesta del Sol, The Ranch, and The Stables. The facility hosts a variety of events throughout the year. Additional activities include pony rides for children eight years and older, hay rides, cookouts, horseback rides, and private rodeos. Visitors can engage in overnight camp trips and a cattle drive. To get to Fort McDowell Adventures follow Shea Boulevard
east to Highway 87 (Beeline Highway). At the stoplight turn left. Follow
87 crossing the Verde River bridge. Just past the bridge you will see
a large sign for the facility on your left. Here the paved road ends.
Don't worry though, the road is a smooth, graded gravel road passable
by any passenger car. Fort McDowell Adventures
