We-Ko-Pa Golf Club is a stunning 36-hole, public, desert-style course that has been developed and is owned by the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation. It is located about ½ mile from the Ft McDowell Casino and all of its great amenities, which is only a few miles from Fountain Hills. The course is situated in beautiful Sonoran Desert country that will never be used for residential or commercial development, offering dramatic and unobstructed views of the desert and the surrounding mountains.
The original course at We-Ko-Pa is the Cholla course, designed by Scott Miller. The second 18-hole course is the Saguaro course, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. The Saguaro course opened in late 2006. In addition to the two 18-hole courses there is a large practice facility. Most of the course is considered desert-style which means the fairways have target zones for landing rather than contiguous stretches of open grass. On most holes there is a fair amount of native desert between fairways that can punish a golfer with inaccurate aim. If you are visiting from out of state make sure to bring a camera when you golf here as you will want to capture some of the awesome vistas to take home and brag to your friends!

The We-Ko-Pa clubhouse is an incredible work of architecture whether you are looking at it from the outside or out from the inside. The design was inspired by the Yavapai culture and many of the features are inspired by the natural environment. Fluid sloped and curving surfaces are punctuated by soaring wooden beams. Stone columns and desert colors integrate the building into the surrounding desert. The clubhouse is split into two sections by a canyon-like entry way that turns into a patio as you progress inward. The patio offers a beautiful fire and water feature in addition to its great views. When on the patio, the dining room is to one side and the pro shop to the other. The dining room has soaring ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glass so you may enjoy the views. From various locations in the clubhouse and patio areas you can experience spectacular views of the McDowell Mountains, Red Mountain, Four Peaks and the Superstitions. Dining on the patio or in the dining room is highly recommended even if you don’t golf. The We-Ko-Pa grill is open for breakfast and lunch. Sitting on the patio is an especially enjoyable experience at sunset as the patio faces southwest and offers a wonderful view of the McDowell Mountains. We-Ko-Pa is also set up to handle receptions and parties of all types and makes a memorable location for your event!
