Picnics One leisurely pastime around Fountain Hills is an
afternoon picnic. There are plenty of great places to enjoy the day
with a picnic basket. A few suggestions are available below. Fountain Park
Golden Eagle Park
Four Peaks Neighborhood Park Four Peaks Neighborhood Park currently offers one covered picnic ramada alongside a grassy soccer field. Other than during soccer matches, this ramada is a quiet place to enjoy the afternoon with the soccer field as a good recreational area for Frisbee and other games. There are also grills available for a cookout, and restrooms. There is disabled access to the ramada. Desert Vista Neighborhood Park Currently, there are no actual amenities for picnicking at this park, but there is a large grass area perfect for Frisbee and other recreation. A blanket is all you need to enjoy a picnic here. Future plans for the park include the proper amenities. The park is located along Tioga Drive between Desert Vista and Tower Drives. Fountain Hills Senior Center Senior residents of the community have access to the Senior Center's picnic ramada located on the property of the Sunset Kiwanis Building. Outdoor recreation here includes shuffleboard, horseshoes, volleyball, and other amenities. The ramada has picnic tables and a grill area. The area is accessible to the disabled. McDowell Mountain Regional Park A great place to get close to the natural setting of the Sonoran Desert while enjoying a picnic is at McDowell Mountain Park. Two picnic areas, the Palo Verde Picnic Area and Ironwood Picnic Area provide picnic tables, grills, and restrooms. There is also disabled access to both sites. A day use fee is required to get into the park, but it is well worth the minimal charge. The park is located on McDowell Mountain Road. Follow Fountain Hills Boulevard north to McDowell Mountain Road. The park is only a few miles out of town. Saguaro Lake Recreation Area Saguaro del Norte, as it is officially referred to, offers numerous picnic ramadas, some of which are down by the lake, and others that are high above the lake on a steep ridge with incredible views. Also, Butcher Jones Beach is a shady spot along the lake that has a wide beach area for swimming, picnic tables, and grill areas, and restrooms. All areas along the lake that are maintained require an access fee. Facilities provide disabled access. Also see Saguaro Lake listed under "Waterways" in the Recreation section of this web site.
Salt River Recreation Area New picnic facilities within the Salt River Recreation Area are now available. All areas require a fee, but also offer access to the river. The facilities are clean and feature picnic ramadas, grills, and restrooms. Some of the areas are shaded by trees. Most facilities provide disabled access. Scottsdale Park System There are limitless possibilities for picnics within the Scottsdale Park System. Facilities include ramadas, restrooms, large grass areas, and plenty of shade. Several of the facilities are located along the Scottsdale Greenbelt and are connected by the Scottsdale Bike Trail.
