The Fountain Hills Unified School District (FHUSD) consists of four campus locations throughout Fountain Hills that together support about 2,400 students. FHUSD on average maintains a student to teacher ratio of 18.4.
The Fountain Hills public schools are well known for their excellence. SchoolDataDirect.com reports that the FHUSD’s Reading proficiency percentile was 84.0% in the 2007-2008 school year. Out of 91 school districts within a 100-mile radius of Fountain Hills this placed FHUSD 6th in Reading Performance. The best district came in at 87.9% Reading proficiency. FHUSD was at the 80th percentile on the Math Proficiency test. The best school district in the same area came in at 88.0%.
The four main public schools in Fountain Hills are: McDowell Mountain Elementary (Prek - 2nd grade), Four Peaks Elementary (3rd - 5th grades), Fountain Hills Middle School (6th - 8th grades), and finally Fountain Hills High School (9th - 12th grades.) All facilities are handicap accessible and each school offers state-mandated special education classes and most also offer selections for gifted students.
FHUSD provides an open enrollment option for students not living within the district which includes Fountain Hills, Fort McDowell and Goldfield Ranch. Parents must provide transportation for students who are accepted in this program.
In addition to Fountain Hills public schools, a tuition-free Charter School serving grades K-8 is available as well as a number of private and religious preschool options.
